A Dream Kitchen for Homesteading - Dryden, MI
This farmhouse kitchen transformation was all about turning a closed-off layout into an open, functional space built for a busy homesteading family.
To make that vision possible, we took the kitchen down to the studs and removed two load-bearing walls, installing new structural beams that allowed the space to open fully into the surrounding living areas. The result is a kitchen that feels bright, spacious, and connected to the rest of the home.
The space is centered around a large island that now serves as the focal point. It was built to support everyday meals and a family-run business, featuring two gas ranges, two sinks, a double 33-inch refrigerator, and two dishwashers.
Custom cabinetry was ordered specifically for this home, finished in a rich deep tone that contrasts beautifully with the warm textures of the brick and open shelving. A large industrial hood fan is concealed within a custom wood surround above the island, adding both function and character.
To complete the transformation, hickory hardwood flooring was installed throughout the first floor and carried up the staircase, tying the entire main level together.
For this family — raising four kids while running a farm and business — the kitchen now serves as the true heart of the home: a place for cooking, gathering, and sharing the fruits of their labor with their community.
